Erich Avinger
guitar

Erich Avenger expands the range of acoustic and electric guitar improvisation through live performances of jazz, rock, blues, classical, and world music in the United States and Europe and through three internationally released CDs. He uses classical guitar techniques to produce rich harmonies and funky rhythms, playing over world grooves, Eastern melodies, American Blues, Jazz Standards and spontaneous improvisations, making for an extraordinary aural experience. In addition to his own groups, Avinger has performed with Victor Wooten, Walfredo Reyes Jr., T. Lavitz, Arnette Cobb, Jai Uttal, Nanda Banerjee, Kellye Gray, and members of Phish.

La Republica (Rome) praised him as "an artist gifted by great intelligence and an absolutely personal style. The Houston Post singled out his "strong and majestic songwriting, the most arresting music around," and JazzTimes Magazine called him "an impressive instrumentalist." Aaron Howard, Public News, observed, "Avinger is one of those rare artists who creates his own art... [there is] extraordinary beauty in the compositions that causes one to return again and again... [and] a genuine originality that transcends style and pierces to the heart."
