Kellye Gray
vocals
Kellye Gray is one of that breed of jazz singers with a sound that is truly her own. From her origins on Austin's Sixth Street, the Kellye Gray Band (the KGB) provided a rare jazz experience attracting a college crowd as well as the more sophisticated up-and-coming baby boomers. Her induction into the Texas Jazz Heritage Society preceded her move to San Francisco, where her career as a serious jazz vocalist flourished.
The Houston Press says, "Gray has a sort of Sarah Vaughn sits-around-with-Sade-at-Ella Fitzgerald's-house-voice that has a tremendous strength and range." Going even further the San Francisco Examiner called her "a musically most imaginative tour de force." CMJ New Music Report said she "emerges with moxie and sophistication," and USA Today heralded her as "Simply the most exciting singer to debut."
Kellye has performed for dignitaries and heads-of-state. She has shared the stage with jazz, blues, and R&B stars throughout the United States and the world. She regularly tours the U.S. and Europe performing at festivals, concerts, and nightclubs, including the Spoleto Festival USA, Stanford Jazz Festival, Houston International Festival, the Jazz and Blues Heritage Festival, the San Francisco Jazz Festival, Yoshi's, the Cinegrille, Snug Harbor, Lincoln Center, and Les Caveaux de la Rochette among others.
