American Soprano Rebekah Camm - whose voice has been described as “ample, lustrous” and “unfailingly gorgeous”- joined the Houston Grand Opera Studio at the beginning of the 2005-2006 season after being selected as a finalist in the 2005 Eleanor McCollum Vocal Competition. She has been garnering recent critical acclaim for her compelling stage presence. Ms. Camm opened the 2007-08 season with her debut as a “shining and agile” Marzelline (Orange County Register) in Fidelio with Los Angeles Opera.  This was followed by her return to Houston Grand Opera in a performance hailed as “heart-breaking” in the world premiere of Christopher Theofanidis’ dramatic oratorio The Refuge, as well as singing the role Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with “pure-toned heartbreak and… youth-enthused joy.”(Houston Chronicle) Ms. Camm will close the season performing the title role in Handel’s Alcina with Wolf Trap Opera. Upcoming engagements for the 2008-09 season include Nella in the Woody Allen directed production of L.A. Opera’s Gianni Schicchi and Dolly Messiter in the world premiere of Andre Previn’s Brief Encounter for Houston Grand Opera.
