Raúl Orlando Edwards
baritone
A singer and dancer, began music studies at the Conservatorio Nacional de Panamá under the tutelage of baritone Federico Redondo and received a B.A. in Music from the University of Houston. Having performed in both operatic and musical genres, Raúl has turned his attention to the performance and promotion of Latin American Art through FLAMART (Featuring Latin American Musical Arts), which he founded in 2005. An established dancer and teacher, he has received several awards, including a Proclamation by the City of Houston for establishing Houston’s first Salsa studio, and numerous television, radio, movie and printed press coverage, a reflection of his consummate commitment to the promotion and preservation of authentic Latin American art form. His artistic professional engagements have included organizations such as the Houston Grand Opera, the Houston Ballet, Society for the Performing Arts, Opera in the Heights, Museum of Fine Art (Houston), the Moores School of Music, Foundation for Modern Music (Houston), The Ensemble Theater, MECA (Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts), VH-1, just to name a few. As a clinician, he has conducted workshops and lectures for Sam Houston State University, University of Houston Downtown, Houston Community College Central, University of Houston African American Studies, Moores School of Music and others. He currently continues studies in voice with renowned Houstonian teacher-coach Lois Alba.
